Mezzo soprano Lee Ann Scherlong has been a featured soloist in Denver and throughout the surrounding region, most notably performing with the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra, the Arvada Center Chorale, the Omaha Chamber Orchestra, the Arapahoe Philharmonic Orchestra and the Colorado Music Festival. She has also performed with the Denver Brass, Littleton Symphony, Colorado Wind Ensemble, Fort Collins Chorale, Longmont Chorale, Augustana Arts, Columbine Chorale, and Cherry Creek Chorale. Ms. Scherlong is a former member of the Robert Shaw Festival Singers as well as a former member of the Augustana Vocal Ensemble (AVE).
Lee Ann's featured operatic roles with companies such as UNC Opera Theatre, Augustana Arts, and Opera Fort Collins, include Dame Carruthers in Yeomen of the Guard, Siebel in Gounod's Faust, Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro, The Secretary in The Consul, Mrs. McLean in Susannah, Grisostomo in Telemann's Don Quixote, Clarina in Rossini's The Marriage Contract, Miss Scruples in Mozart's The Impresario, the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, and the Third Lady in The Magic Flute.
Regional theatre performances include appearances with Performance Now, Spotlight Theatre Company, the Union Colony Dinner Theatre, Longmont Community Theatre, Inspire Creative, Curtain UP, and Up In Lights Productions. Roles include Yente and Golde in Fiddler on the Roof, Madame De La Grande Bouche in Beauty and the Beast, Queen Aggravain in Once Upon a Mattress, Mrs. Meers in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Lady Thiang in The King and I, the Reverand Mother and Sister Hubert in Nunsense, and Miss Hannigan in Annie, as well as a featured singer in Showtunes: A Musical Review of Jerry Herman.
Lee Ann is active as a music director and conductor in the region, working with companies such as Spotlight Theatre Company, Union Colony Dinner Theatre, Augustana Arts, and Curtains UP. Music directing/conducting credits including Man of La Mancha, Showtunes: A Musical Review of Jerry Herman, Once Upon a Mattress, Ragtime, Oklahoma, Do Black Patent Shoes Really Reflect Up, Godspell, Working, Annie, Nunsense and Titanic, the latter receiving an Ovation award nomination and a Marlowe award.
A native of Colorado, Ms. Scherlong holds a double Masters of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Choral Conducting from Colorado State University and did doctoral work in Vocal Performance at the University of Northern Colorado. Lee Ann previously taught at Colorado Christian University and at the Augustana Institute of Music, as well as in teaching high school choral music for eight years. Lee Ann has prepared many students for All State Choir auditions as well as other contests and competitions. In addition to teaching out of her home studio, Lee Ann is currently the performing arts teacher at SkyView Academy, an award winning charter school in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
